New growth

Never seen growth this early. Am I missing something here? Date and time are correct. I still have some holding horns.

That isn't new growth. It's a flattened out pedicle from where he just shed. I agree, it is slightly elongated like that of an axis buck, but pretty common. I also think the lighting makes it look moreso odd.
