    HID conversion on spotlight..

does anyone know if it is possible to do a HID conversion on a spotlight?
I have a cyclops with a H3 bulb and i imagine i could mount the ballast on the back of it..its just a matter of with it work or short out and be a waste of money

I've seen it done before on a flashlight forum, but can't remember the name of it. I dont see why you couldn't. What kind of spotlight do you have. It's something I'd be interested in doing

The only problem I see is that it is really hard on an HID bulb to be turned on and off repeatedly. From what I have been told they should not be turned on more than a few times/hour. So if you are flipping the light on and off constantly you may have bulbs going out pretty frequently, which can get annoying and pricey.

Why I know this: I converted my truck headlights to HID. I did not disable the daytime running lights so they were constantly turning on/off. I also didn't disable my approach lighting so when I hit unlock on the remote the lights come on, then they turn off when starting, then come back on when truck is started. Sure enough I had bulb problems. I discussed the problem with the company I bought the bulbs from and I turned approach lighting off and pulled the DRL fuse and no problems since.

            Anyway, just my experience.

Txdropen made a good post. It might not be the h3 bulb we are thinking of. It might be just the bulb without the connection like he posted.

Have you taken it apart and checked?

I wish I knew how to work with led. I just bought a light bar and it's crazy bright.

I haven't taken it apart yet..but what he thought i was referring to a hummer H3 light bulb(which uses a H13 bulb like my truck) and i felt offended by that..

but according to the website they use a 100 watt 12 volt H3 like in fog lights
