All this talk about lights, I decided to update some info. I've actually done some night hunting since I wrote this up. My favorite light is the Coyote Light. It's not cheap but it's cordless and will run all night on a set of batteries. Not cheap but very good. For the budget minded, I like the Wicked Light. I put this little gadget together just for night hunting. A Wicked Light in red with a Stream Light Strion for instant white light when needed.

That be the one. I got mine in a trade and figured I'd use it for something one day.

It's hat time again. Who's out hunting something besides deer?

We have been, shot these fox a while back. Brother barely missed a yote with his bow at about 40 yards the other day. I'd rather varmint call than deer hunt any day of the week.

If it's nice outside tomorrow me and my brother are probably gonna go make sure our rifles are dialed in. It's still pretty warm but once that fur gets nice and thick it's go time. Our furbearer season starts in December so bobcats and such are safe until then. I already know where to get two. One big son of a gun.

Made one stand in the wind tonight then it turned into a jack rabbit hunt to make sure the rifles were on. Sister made her longest shot on an animal with my .204 at 315 ranged yards. Pretty happy with that and really will boost your confidence in your gear

For night time driving around does it matter what truck you have? Diesel vs gas, loudness? Color?
                        Utv?

That's a great shot! She should be proud

It's getting to be that time of year.

Called almost all day started at 11 am just before the freezing fog rolled in. Called a total of 5 dogs on 4 stands. Dropped 1 mangy rascal. 3 came in on one stand but the wind had shifted and they caught me on a crosswind and made a wide circle around me. I had a shot at 200+, but I’m just not confident at that distance yet.

How much distance between your stands? Do you call immediately upon setting up or let it calm down some?

I missed an easy shot on one today. I sat up on a weed row,7 minutes into the stand a coyote busted through the weed row from behind me. I could have swung my rifle and hit him he was so close. I barked to stop him and he ran past my call. He stopped just over a knoll 50 yards from me and just as I was about to shoot him in the head he disappeared. I sat up on my knees and he was heading straight away from me. I switched calls and here he came right back. Stopped 15 feet away from me. I put the crosshairs between his eyes and squeezed the trigger. Shot right over him. I shot probably 4 or 5 times offhand. Kicked dirt on him once but that's about it. I know there was two coyotes there but I never saw the other one. The one I shot at was looking at it.

12 degree weather is good coyote calling weather.
