I know this won’t be a popular response, but before you ADD a chemical to try to improve your sleep pattern, at least consider some basic alternatives. Are you getting adequate exercise, or are you sedentary behind a desk? Are you avoiding caffeine after 3pm or so? Are you avoiding screens (blue light) prior to bed? These 3 basic habits/actions can dramatically improve sleep. The magnesium recommendation is also good, though I don’t know about the validity of the tangent statement regarding the vaccine.

alcohol before bed can help you fall asleep but your overall sleep quality will suffer. You won’t get as restful of sleep. Arguable the same can be true for other chemical sleep aids.

Seems like all of the OTC sleep products - while they have other ingredients - include either melatonin or an antihistimine like benadryl or doxylamine succinate. Many like the Relaxium mentioned also claim to have some super secret "proprietary ingredient" but sure enough, the last ingredient is melatonin. The problem with antihistimines is you build up a tolerance quickly and it quits working. That's why they all say "For Occasional Use." If I fight through 2-3 nights in a row of tossing and turning I'll take Unisom and it usually knocks me out. Weird vivid dreams and a bit of a hangover when I wake up but it's worth it to finally feel rested

A buddy of mine had real bad issues not sleeping. He has one of those breathing mask things and tried every thing the docs and every one else suggested. His cure was a couple hits of weed before bed. Says he sleeps great as long as he does that. He was really against it, but nothing worked, so he tried it. It's the only time he smokes. But says it works great.

Circadian rhythm, What's that? 3 years into retirement after 46 years of shiftwork and I still can't sleep without aids. If I do shun the aids, its an hour or so sleep after I spend a few hours tossin & turnin. So, even if it's just a couple beers I do something to help. I alternate, Alcohol, Otc aids prescriotion stuff and the tossin & turnin thing. Keepin an eye on this thread for more info.

This is the answer. We as a society are always looking for a quick fix in regards to health.

A great sleep pattern for me is rigorous exercise (and Im not talking about doing bench and curls or a walk). No caffeine late in the day, limit screen time before bed, and a good diet.

I get Delta 9 from Hello Mood. They have a sleep one that works very well for me. It's legal and ship right o your door. If you get some of the mood ones and land on the Hero Dose you better not have anything to do that day.

Like mentioned a few times, Trazadone! Must be orescribed by a Doctor. It works great.

I have the ability to fall asleep, my problem is staying asleep. My primary care doc prescribed Trazadone and that worked for a couple of years, but last year we switched to 50mg of Doxepin, which I think is actually an anxiety med. Nevertheless, it does what I need it to most of the time.

A clear conscience works for me.

For years I took two 50mg Diphenhydramine. It worked good putting me to sleep and keeping me asleep. However, if I had to wake up during the night (wife hears a strange noise, etc.) it was bad.

Late last year I made the decision to cut back on alcohol and daily drinking. Two Diphenhydramine weren’t enough to get me to sleep and keep me asleep. I upped it to three, and it made things worse — restless legs and random movements. Starting doing research and discovered it wasn’t the best for you long term.

So I made the switch to Relaxium. I take two before bed. It takes me a little longer to fall asleep, and if I wake up, it takes a little longer to fall back to sleep. But all in all, I like it and will continue.

can you elaborate on rigorous exercise??

I too have trouble sleeping and have had good success recently with changing my workout routine to first thing in the morning.
