    Looking for a Boykin spaniel

My old lab was just diagnosed with cancer and won’t be around much longer. so I figured its time for me to get the ball rolling now. This will be a house/ family dog just as much or more than a hunting dog. We have two boys, 7 & 5 and they are pretty heart broken about their beloved dog being sick. I’ll be using this dog for mainly dove hunting with a few duck hunts a year at small farm ponds. I’d also like the opportunity to train it flush.
I’ve been interested in boykins for awhile but I’m also interested in other breeds of similar size if yall have some input.

Sorry to hear about your lab.
We have a female Boykin that we got a little over two years ago from Bob & Ginny Hall in Flintstone, GA. She's our first dog, and we couldn't be happier. We don't do much duck hunting, but we do a lot of upland hunting and she's been fantastic. Just wrapping up her 2nd season now and she's been on a dozen or so trips to ND, SD, KS, and NM, hunting sharptail grouse, hungarian partridge, pheasant, bobwhites and blue quail.
She's a hunting machine, and a great family pet too. We keep her inside. I highly recommend the breed, we're really happy we chose a Boykin. Definitely gonna get a 2nd one, but the plan is to wait another 3-4 years.

There's a handful of good breeders here in Texas but I'd recommend heading East and get on the wait list from a proven breeder. Our 2 came out of Tennessee

If you decide on the English cocker I can recommend a guy in east Texas. My pup from him is the birdiest dog I have ever been around. Wish I had the time to train her much less go hunting and take her. My kids love her in the house. She is a little higher strung that my lab and she is hilarious and aggravating at the same time.

But her sire just won the 2023 National open field trial for cockers and I know they are expecting another litter from him soon if you are interested.

I think R & D Boykin Spaniels has a couple of litters going, don't know if any are available though. We just got our 8 week old from a breeder in the San Antonio area, this will be our third. Great dogs, you'll really enjoy it.

Thanks everybody. We ended up having to put him down yesterday. The whole family is pretty bummed. Especially the kids as this is the first day they’ve been alive with out a dog in the house. My oldest son (7) even made us have a funeral for him last night lol.

                          Back to the puppy question.
Does anyone have any experience with Red Creek Kennels up near lufkin?

Sorry again Marsh. Hope you find a Boykin. Might ask Panhandlehunter on here. He just got a female this past year and she is an awesome little hunter. I don’t know where he got her. Good luck to ya sir
