New Mexico Mule Deer

Tried searching for the topic, but did not find much. Any folks put in out there or have any experience in New Mexico? Talking to some friends out there, I am thinking of putting in for the 30's units for some desert mule deer hunts.

Grew up in NM and started my bowhunting career there. Also my F-I-L dropped a hammer in Unit 2 the 1st day of the Jan archery season this year. Buck went over 200" with close to 20" broken off.

I am not familiar with Unit 30 though

Unit 30 is not what it use to be they are killing to many deer in rifle and muzzle loader season. Numbers are way down.

call land of enchantment outfitters. i have done their archery hunt in january and it's awesome. tons of bucks and lots of stalks also.

Do not hunt unit 34. Great Elk unit. Poor Deer unit. Like other have said numbers way down.

I've hunted private land in Units 37 and 38 since 1994. Can't help personally with 30 or 31 but I do know the deer numbers have been way down in the past decade in our areas. They did look up this year. Seeing a lot more elk every year which is a bonus. I'd recommend trying it out if you can draw the tag. Always a great challenge hunting these desert mulies.

Pick three units, and hope for the best. New Mexico isn’t very friendly to out of stater’s… Good Luck!

I hunted 2nd rifle in Unit 33 for 5 days hard with a great outfitter, seen quite a few deer but nothing even close to what i was looking for.
