I don't think they would waste a defensive talent like Jung at 1st base, I wouldn't. I think Smitty is gonna have to get squared away in the outfield, and/or potentially 1st base. At that point he can get in the lineup pretty much every day. It's very possible his best place of value is as trade bait though. I'd trade him for a real centerfielder who can lead off and hit with some pop...or a legit arm.

DM you definitely have a GM's mind.
I am pretty confident that Josh Smith has turned a corner and will continue to play offense and defense at this high level we are seeing right now.
But as a GM you have to know that it does not always hold up long term, and many players just have 1 or 2 breakout years only to drop back off later on.
If you are not able to work him into the everyday lineup then you have to consider that kind of trade in order to improve the team where it is really needed.
I think my first option would be to have him on first and run the risk that he might not be able to make 1-2 plays a month that a bigger, taller player might be able to make. His other defensive skills and his bat more than make up for it.
With that, I am not opposed to a trade. It just depends on what the other guy in the trade brings to the team.

Frustrating isn’t it? Same song, same verses over and over and over again.
I hate to say this, I really respect the guy, but I’m really worried about Cory Seagers seeming diminishing range at shortstop. He picks every ball that is hit in close proximity. But he gets to zero balls, imo, that require some athleticism. He certainly doesn’t lay out for many. At least that I’ve noticed. The home runs are great. But I think he gives the opposition some extra base runners that all too after turn into runs. He’s a big man. I get it . But…. We’ll see…
I thought the bat thing was interesting last night. Some players didn’t bother with the tricked up bats. Some used different ones each at bat. By the end of the game it seemed many of the players had gone back to their regular bats. They do look cool though.
looking forward to tonight’s rerun.

I’m ready for September call ups. I want to see DeGrom pitch in 4-5 games. I’d like to see Jack Leiter back up to get some big league innings/starts. Maybe even go to a 6 man rotation to ease DeGrom in, and take innings off of Eovaldi. I liked Dunning better in the rotation than the pen, if he can be your 4th or 5th guy that’s a pretty good rotation. Keep Josh Smith on the field as much as possible to keep miles off Seager and Semian. I’d rather he play center field than Taveras’ dumb ass….hell I’d rather see Smart play center field than Taveras. I don’t know what you do with Garcia, but he’s lost at the plate, and he’s still a half assed right fielder.
And for ****s sake, give Chris Young a 10 year contract!
