Antenna (indoor or in attic) suggestions?

Anyone have any recommendations for a good indoor or attic antenna? I want one that can also get VHS channels as fox in Austin is channel 7. I've tried 2 different indoor ones from best buy but they only got the UHF channels even though they said VHS/UHF antenna.

I'm not able to see anything from fox so no college football or NFL on Fox. Time to fix it for good. I can't do antenna outside because of HOA so my options are limited to indoor or one in attic.

Do you have radiant barrier decking on the roof or the like?

I'm pretty sure the HOA cannot keep you from installing an outdoor antenna. You can look up the OTARD rule. I tried an outdoor antenna but I'm too low to get a signal at my house and my roof is too steep to get a antenna above the peak and then I still have 20+ more feet of pecan trees to try and get through.

I will look that up. I haven't tried but just assumed they would say something.

I believe that is really going to hamper what you are trying to achieve. Could be wrong though.

I would install an “outdoor” antenna inside your attic, if it were me. I haven’t found an “indoor” antenna worth a darn.

I agree I've tried some of the best indoor ones that I could find and they haven't been worth a darn either. I'm 21 miles from the towers in Austin so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm looking at this one and going to mount in attic first. If that doesn't work, I'll deal with HOA to mount outside. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0024R4B5C...a-attic-alt-20

I installed an indoor/outdoor antenna in my attic. I did not get a single channel because of the foil backed OSB decking.

I think you will need an exterior antenna. Radiant barriers, foil based osb.and metal roofs will kill reception. At 21 miles you shouldn't meed to be too high.

This guy was a great resource when we setup TV at our lease with an over the air antennae.

Try tvfool.com first. Ise the locator. It will give you a start of what kind of signal you can get with type of antenna based on address. I’m north of DFW ABOUT 20-30 miles from stations and bought a $30 antenna from Walmart and stuck it in the attic.

Posting the OTARD rule link here for others who were unaware like I was. Also putting here in case I need to use it when the HOA says something so i can find quickly.

The right of homeowners to install satellite dishes is protected by the OTARD Rule. But what is this rule anyway? Find out here!
