    RIP Lower unit

Lower unit decided it was done at 65 mph yesterday in a tournament. Ultrex took me 4 miles till a buddy stopped and towed me the last mile to the ramp. I usually do all my own work but studying up on this there are some tools I don’t have and would cost a butt load to buy. New assembly is $4,098. Would like to keep from spending that.

Anyone had a LU rebuilt lately? What did it cost you? If it costs 3K or so I’ll just buy the new one.

2018 Mercury 250Xs 2 stroke was $11.5 and it took them 2 months to get one. 2-3 years ago it was about half that.

Look at the SEI replacements. I put one on a 250 Yamaha 2 years back. Works great and it was way less than rebuilding my old one.

Buy a new one. Crazy but it’s about same price.

Sounds like you use your equipment. Buy new ......Rebuilds never last.

Thanks for the advice. Probably gonna buy a new one. Weird, I change the gear oil once a year and never saw water or metal in it.
