So have the entity doing business with consumers separate from the entity owning the real estate to protect it.
That thought crossed my mind as well.

Name it through the Comptrollers office when you file for Texas Agricultural or Timber Registration for tax exemption for ag purchases. No particular corporate paper work has to be filed otherwise for the Comptroller to call it what you want Mr G.

My name and farm name is on my new TX Ag registration card.

Also…maybe go to local USDA/NRCS and have them assign you a farm number. My farm had two or three farm numbers on their map and I had it consolidated and was assigned one number. This will help if ever you want to apply for federal agricultural grants or loans in the future.

That is what we are going to do. Welcome to DIS Ranch is what the sign will say. The letters in DIS are the first letter in each of my family member’s name.

We named ours because we had more than one tract of land.

Much like others here we grow a lot of cactus so we called it “Cactus Rose” using my kids initials C/R. “The Rose”

“Cactus Rose” is from one of my favorite movies “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence”.

We have umbrella policy and the “liability sign” for working cows.

A little off topic, I named the top 6 acres of our 30 the 'Dehorty Flat' with the USGS, so it's in their database and will be on future maps. Bill and Annie Dehorty homesteaded 160 acres close to our land in the 1870s. I'm really into the local history here in Montana.

I filed an online application with the USGS Bureau of Geographic Names in Reston, Virginia. I got a resolution passed by the town council, and appeared at a county commissioner's meeting and got a letter of support. Montana is the only state without a state geographic places person, so the state did not chime-in on my application.

I wrote an article for the local newspaper which appeared in 2021. It's great to be retired and have time to do stuff like this.

I should put up a sign at the gate.

If you are going to do any sort of farming or ranching on the place set it up as an LLC. You can open a bank account in the name of the LLC and run all your expenses and revenue through that account. At the end of the year if you are in the red, then those are deductions from your income and you will have a lower tax burden. Feed, Fuel, Supplies, Equipment, etc. - run it all though your LLC, sell a few cows or goats or realize some revenue from leasing out the grazing rights or whatever, deposit it into the account. Your ranch losses with offset with your income and you will pay less taxes. Its a very smart move. I recommend it 100%
