Horns don't drop, except the pronghorn antelope. Antlers start shedding in Feb. (usually). Stress and nutrition will affect this some. I'd start looking now. Let's see what you find bro!

            Antler Sheds

Whitetail pretty much drop Antlers between January and April depending on the elements. Bucks in Washinton county still have not dropped yet. SOON..... Hope you find some.

My granddad used to say that Bucks start shedding antlers right about at the time when trees and flowers start budding. "BUDDING STARTS, ANTLERS DROP".

As a young boy i remember him always bringing a doe or buck strapped over his horse during hunting season...a wise "Ole" hunter he was.

Ours in stonewall still carry in the first of march. You can see a field load of em. By the middle of march it seems every year they have all dropped.

This year could be different than most relating to the drought.

                          Could happen anytime.

I was lead to believe that once all of the does are done going into estrous that the bucks sense this. Testosterone levels drop and the antlers begin to fall.

Maybe the does are holding on later this year which may cause the bucks to keep their antlers a little longer than usual.

Seems that we rut was about 4-6 weeks behind schedule this year on average so maybe the antlers will hang on a few weeks longer. Trail camera photos should show this.

All of this is a theory. Nobody has ever been through a year quite like this since the 50's.

The timing of shedding varies with location just like the rut. They are controlled by the changes in the photoperiod, amount of daylight minutes in a day, which varies as you move location.

Nutritional stress, age, and individual buck differences can affect the timing by a few weeks, but most bucks will shed within a few weeks after the others start.

If you want to know when antlers drop, put out a trailcam and watch
