To heck with muzzleloader season! Get out there now!! Getting a big cat on your own place would be WAY more of an accomplishment than getting just another deer!!

Are bobcats rare in TX, or does it depend on the area? In 40 years of hunting, I've only seen a few bobcats in GA, except for a tract we had here local. We were developing 550 acres that was surrounded by subdivisions and farms. That place was covered up in bobcats.
I never shot one. I only shoot deer, hogs, coyotes and people.

edit: That tract was also covered up in coyotes, deer and turkeys.

Had a good looking bobcat cross in front of me last weekend. If I would have been bowhunting I would have busted him and got'em mounted.

Whats the best plan of attack?. When have seen this guy before on camera. I have a Mauser in 22-250 for predators and for night time I have an AR10 in .308 with IR. I also have a predator calling system but have never used it before. Any tips on calling it in?

Charlie I think that is a bobcat unless that is a huge feeder

I like to wait at least 30 minutes for bobcats. Even 45 minutes if I know without a doubt a bobcat is in the area. In my experience they can take a long time to come in. I waited nearly an hour before the cat showed up. Having said that I've called them in, in 30 seconds or less. Just depends how close you are to them when you start calling.

Baby cottontail, adult cottontail, rat squeaks and bird in distress ( woodpecker ) work good. I leave the call going continuously so they don't get side tracked on their way to the call.

Start out nice and soft and be patient. You may need to call upwards off an hour for a cat.
if you can’t coax it in with a prey distress like cottontail, squirrel or voles, mating season is just around the corner. You might try a bobcat mating call, if it’s Tom he may come in looking for nooky, if it’s a female, she may be looking to run off the competition.

cats are tough. They are a slow burn and will hang up in brush making sure things are legit. They are also really unpredictable, and don’t use the wind like a coyote who will generally come in downwind

One more thing, if you care anything about the pelt, I’d switch the NV scope to the 22-250.

sidebar- I’m not convince that is a cat. Looks a bit “foxish” to me from the profile and the muzzle looks black.

Picked up a little pamphlet in Junction by the regional TPWD biologist that had a lot of interesting information about predators and how they have less pressure than ever. Reduced farming and ranching has predators on the rise. With less sheep/goats they are more reliant on deer etc. We have noticed more predators on cameras in recent years as well. Good luck hope you get that cat.
