Bucks still chasing in Burnet county

was at my place in burnet county assessing the progress of my barndo build and noticed a nice 8 point chasing a doe in my neighbors place. He was really dogging her and wouldn't let her get too far away. A smaller buck was hanging out just in case. All told there were 3 bucks in the hunt.

Figured it was all over, but I guess she escaped the 2 prior ruts.

Bucks are chasing big time in McCulloch county at the moment. Go figure. Yesterday and today was the most action I have seen since opening day by far..

Had an eight point hit a doe pod like a bowling ball yesterday morning.

Two years ago I watched 4 bucks chase a young doe hard in February here in Bastrop.

I once saw 11 bucks after one doe in February. It ain’t over til it’s over.

Its my experience bucks in the south will chase as long a doe is in heat. That' usually into early to mid January.

I just got a text from a biologist friend of mine who said some of last years fawns will be coming into heat as well at 7 or 8 months of age. He said buck will run them until their antlers drop, then they can’t breed. Crazy
