I second 121 Bistro in Lake Charles. Lamb lollipops are great. Pretty much everything I've had there has been great.

Went to Umami Sushi with a customer for lunch one day and was blown away with the quality. Lake Charles as well.

In NOLA, if you are there for more than just a dinner, do yourself a favor and go to Domilese's and get some poboys. I grew up going here with my parents who were both New Orleans native's. I personally think they are the best poboys in the city.

Another place we would frequent but isn't too fancy is Mandina's. While there you have to at least try the turtle soup. R&O's out by the lake is also another local joint that isn't too fancy but has great food. Ye Olde College Inn would be another good choice for a more local joint but a little more "upscale" then the others I've mentioned.

Of course you have Commander's, Galatoire's, Acme, Peche, Meril's, Felix's, etc. that other's associate with NOLA, I'm just giving you some of the options that I try to hit that not many visitors would know about.

RIP K-Paul’s …. closed nearly 4 years ago during COVID

IMO, GW Fins is the best restaurant in NOLA hands down. You need to make reservations now since they are booked 2-3 weeks out.

Parkway Tavern has the best shrimp and roast beef debris poboys.

Angelo Brocatos for authentic Italian deserts.... Canollis, spumoni, Italian ice, gelato, etc …

Thanks y’all. Great recommendations. Looking in to some of these in detail!

I’m packing today and then back in the ER for 4 days starting tomorrow, day of aviation medicine clinic then hit the road.

                  Report date is coming quickly!

                    For Lake Charles

                    The Chart house
                    Mazens
                    Pujo Street (my favorite)

For NOLA, the Original Pierre Maspero's in the Quarter is our go to place to a nice meal.
