Squirrel Hunting

what's the quietest weapon BESIDES a BOW allowed to hunt squirrels on public land? I'm covered up with them and plan on going after them after Deer Season.

22lr (even unsuppressed). Especially after deer season once leaves thin a bit.

I've killed a bunch with 22 shorts and out of a rifle they are quiet.

If you could find a 22 caliber rim fire that shot 22 shorts instead of 22lr. Shorts can kill squirrels easily and are barely louder than a pellet gun.

Agree with using 22 shorts.

My 2 favorite ways to cook them. Bread and deep fry the young ones, make squirrel and dumplings with the old tough ones.

I use CCI "quiet ammo" in a bolt action Savage Mark II and it is pretty quiet.

Get some standard velocity LR HPs and get after them--and get a suppressor if you really are after quiet.

If you have a 22 that will shoot shorts they started selling the CCI 22 short CB's (City Bullet) again. I picked up a few boxes at Academy the other day. I haven't seen them in years.

CCI also has a 22LR called a 22-quiet....don't know much about that one though
