    What should I do?

I live in the Woodlands and tonight a tree about 15 inches in diameter broke at the base and is leaning over my fence and over the house. I called the number for the parks dept. (who are responsible for trees that are on the green belts) and they send a ranger out. He said the tree was one of theirs and they are responsible for it. The ranger calls the woodlands corp. supervisor on call and told them the tree will hit my house when it falls. The supervisor tells them she would have a crew out in the morning. The only thing holding it off the house now are the tops of my trees. With the forecast of rain tomorrow I told her she should at the very least get someone out to stabilize it tonight. The rangers both said it will probably fall with any wind. Sorry to be so long winded but I'm just a little bit po'd!

Once the tree crosses your property line it is your tree. Call your agent and tell them whats happening, it is covered on your homeowners.

Call your insurance agent immediately and document everything with pics.

under most policies, there is no coverage until it actually damages covered property.....( a fence, your house, etc.)

your policy covers damage, not future or possible damage.
Calling your agent will likely generate a claim, even though it will be denied.

take pictures, cut it down or stabilize it, and send them the bill if you are that concerned about it.

Can you take some rope and throw it up over a limb in the tree and tie it back to another tree in the green belt?

I wouldnt hesitate to call a tree service and get them to cut it up before it falls.

                    X2 on photo documentation.
