    Gravel retaining grid

Have a gravel area next to the driveway that leads to the side fence/gate/backyard. Basically a third lane to the driveway, and could park a trailer/utv/camper there. It’s old and the gravel is washing and very soft. Would like to refresh it and have something more solid to drive/park/ on and drag trashcans across. Curious about these gravel grid systems. Anybody used one? Any recommendations?

    Something like this:
Agtec Geocell can be filled with base layers such as gravel, sand, rock and soil to keep the material in place and greatly increase the strength of the base layer. Cells are 2 inches deep. Covers 230 sq.ft.

Never have used one but I have a lot of landscaping stone I think could have benefited from having a base structure such as this in place first. This said, I would still have questions as to how long it’s structural integrity might last after a combination of direct sun, extreme temps, and the stress of the load over time because I imagine that if it would have to be replaced after, say, seven to ten years, the task of removing gravel/rock in order to get a good lay might not be worth it.

These systems work. The problem is the lateral movement in the gravel as you drive or even walk over it. This locks it in and really helps prevent that. There are many different kinds for a wide range of cost, but they all do essentially the same thing.

To your knowledge, is degradation an issue over time?

I work for a manufacture of this product that we produce in Houston. There is no need to worry about degradation over time, we design with it and give it a 125 year design life. The product works great and for your application would help a ton, I would add you would likely want to put a simple non woven down first before placing the geocell. Reach out to me if you have any additional questions.

I have seen these used in areas for erosion control in industrial settings also. As far as degradation and longevity I do not have a clue.,
