    Lake Buchanan Fishing Info Needed

I want to take my kids and grandkids fishing for stripers and white bass in the next couple of months. I am unfamiliar with the lake and will be fishing from a Back Country skiff. I would appreciate any and all thoughts and suggestions on how to give it a go. Thanks in advance for your help GS.

Brandon can give you lake advice. For river fishing (lake level) you can go to Colorado Bend State Park (for whites/crappie).

Make sure you watch the weather closely. That lake is nasty when the wind blows. I fished with a couple different guides up there for Stripers and they all ran offshore style boats. I’ve seen some legit 4 footers out there.

I certainly will do that. My dad spent 8 hrs clinging to an overturned boat on Sam Rayburn many years ago before he was found. Fair weather fisherman I am.

When are you planning on going? This is my absolute favorite time to fish Buch. Once the water temps get around 60 you can slay them. The best day I’ve ever had for numbers was this time of yr. 325 hybrids/stripers over 18” in less than 6 hrs.

Not got any definite dates in mind as of now. Starting my chemo today for my cancer treatments so have to see how I feel in the weeks ahead. My research shows trolling and vertical jigging are proven methods. Any suggestions are very welcome on how to proceed for success. Never caught a striper and sure would like to do that. Your fish numbers show you know how to fish this lake, for sure.

That is the best way, no doubt.

Like RR said hiring a guide would be the best. I no longer guide but cant recommend some. *** for techniques vertical jigging is great this time of yr. Trolling is more effective in the heat heat of the summer. This time of yr jumbo shiners work real well. I prefer fishing shad but not many people are equipped to keep them a;live

Are shiners sold at local bait shops around the lake?
