    Freeze Miser

Anyone use them? Worth the $$$? TIA

I do. They work as advertised and I had one stop. Sent the guy a picture of the connection end and they replaced it. Going to buy more.

If it stopped, did it not freeze?

Never heard of them...but look interesting. I would need about a 10 pack.

No, it kept dripping like it should but didn't stop once it reached the operating temperature. Kept the slow drip.

If you are building new or replacing outdoor faucets you can buy frost proof fixtures that shut off the water inside the wall where it stays warm enough to not freeze.

These will still freeze up. Especially on the north side of a house/building. I added a hose bib after the back flow on some irrigation and was wondering if it would protect the back flow from freezing and cracking. Also want to use them on some troughs...

No issues with my house in Montgomery during snowvid. They have to be able to drain to work and you need to have good insulation in your exterior walls. You can’t leave a hose connected. They are used on houses in the northern states.

I have them. They freeze here in Burnet County. I use them in all the houses I build. 2x6 exterior wall with spray foam, OSB and masonry-still will freeze in a multiday freeze with a bad wind chill. Metal buildings and exterior walls with Hardi siding facing north will freeze up first.

How are they being installed? Have you ever scanned your exterior walls to see what temp they are? Is there no heat in the house?

Those are the ones. They usually are labeled like this-

"Important Note: While manufacturers label these spigots as frost-free, there’s no absolute guarantee that they won’t freeze. Plumbers recommend turning off the water to the outdoor faucet before the first freeze to prevent any issues."

No I don't scan the walls. LOL Now, back to freeze misers please...

I have them on some water troughs in NM and on my solar well, so I can leave water running year round. The seem to work well.

I was just out there and after a 10 degree morning everything was still flowing and working.

You need to make sure to mount these at a down sloping angle to the outside when installed.
