If you are building new or replacing outdoor faucets you can buy frost proof fixtures that shut off the water inside the wall where it stays warm enough to not freeze.

These will still freeze up. Especially on the north side of a house/building. I added a hose bib after the back flow on some irrigation and was wondering if it would protect the back flow from freezing and cracking. Also want to use them on some troughs...

No issues with my house in Montgomery during snowvid. They have to be able to drain to work and you need to have good insulation in your exterior walls. You can’t leave a hose connected. They are used on houses in the northern states.

I have them. They freeze here in Burnet County. I use them in all the houses I build. 2x6 exterior wall with spray foam, OSB and masonry-still will freeze in a multiday freeze with a bad wind chill. Metal buildings and exterior walls with Hardi siding facing north will freeze up first.
Those are the ones. They usually are labeled like this-
"Important Note: While manufacturers label these spigots as frost-free, there’s no absolute guarantee that they won’t freeze. Plumbers recommend turning off the water to the outdoor faucet before the first freeze to prevent any issues."
No I don't scan the walls. LOL Now, back to freeze misers please...

You need to make sure to mount these at a down sloping angle to the outside when installed.
