    ??? For Thermal users.

I would like the opinion of actual users of thermal scopes.
If you had a budget of $4,000 what scope would you buy?
It will be used for some pig hunting but mainly for predators. I would like to be good out to 250 yards or a tad further, imagine wise. Or will $4,000 get me there?
    Thanks

that's a pretty long poke for thermal. I just spent approx $4k on a pulsar talion, and I'm comfortable with it up to maybe 150 yds. you can obviously see a whole lot further off, but the target gets pretty small. Not sure what you'd need to spend to find a scope good enough to make 250-300 yds a viable shot.

I would contact Outdoor Legacy, either on here or call the actual store, and let them know what you're looking for. They're good folks and will get you set up with what you need, without trying to upsell you onto something you don't need. That said, they may not need to upsell if you're looking for that kind of range.

250 yards is a lot to ask. Probably the very high end can handle that. $$$

I went “cheap” with the ATN Thor 4HD and it has been fine at closer range.

That’s what I was wondering. Actually 200 yards would probably be plenty.
I’ve looked through a buddies $7,000+ Trijicon and I think it was good at that range far. It was super clear. Not much pixilation at all.
          but I ain’t springing for $7000.

I run a AGM Rattler TS-50 640 and would be comfortable making 150-200yd shots with it. I zero it at 100yd.

I use a Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ38 and have shot out at 200. If it was me I would look at the Thermion 2 XQ50 or an iray unit.

For 4k I would go with an AGM scope and an AGM handheld monocular. With AGM you should be able to get both for that budget. You will thank later on getting the monocular.

My thermion XQ50 will easily shoot out to 200 yards. However, down here on the coast, the usual humidity often prevents me from getting a clear enough ID to fill comfortable with taking shots much past that, especially with my calves around. I often strongly suspect that an animal is a pig, but will always try to get closer to make sure rather than risk it.

                      I will second this recommendation.

you can buy used one in that price range or a lower end new one. And you can definitely shoot that far with any thermal. how well the shot is going to be will vary on each shot. Image quality isn't that great on lower end units.

I have no issues with my Pulsar XP50 at this range.
