Anyone had their garage door springs replaced lately? I am out of town and ours broke today. Called the company that was recommended by others in our neighborhood. Tech came out and told my wife all kinds of stuff that was wrong. Ended up costing me over $600 for two springs and some overpriced cables. I haven't had this done in about 10 years but the last time is was under $200. Is it just inflation or did we get hosed?

When i retire i might start a garage door business. There are millions of garage doors in Katy! What a racket, just like the AC business charging $200 for a capacitor you can get on amazon for $9.00. They scare you in to not trying to replace it yourself.
On the other hand, maybe I paid $300 extra so the garage door would be fixed TODAY for my wife.

Mine broke a few years ago and I thought I could replace them myself. After watching 3 or 4 YT videos, and listening to the host of the videos say this is extremely dangerous and unless you know what you are doing, call a professional. It is very easy to break an arm while replacing springs. I called the local company to replace them

I had mine replaced 2 years ago and it was one big spring.... About 6 months ago it started squeaking so i upgraded all the rollers and clamps. Still squeaked called a professional and he said they should have used 2 springs and the door had way to much tension cauing it to pull on one side. He charged me about 200.00 for a complete realignment but siad that it will eventual go to crap. I used a veteran that had good reviews in my area.

I'd rather work on a live electrical wiring than the springs of a garage door.
I had my garage doors replaced early this year. Almost $4K for the a single bay/two bay door, rails, springs and one opener. All because some jack wagon wanted to get in my garage. They stuck something at the top of the door, trying to grab the release rope. They failed to get in. I've cut mine off and wired them in the closed position. Hate a thief.
