Starlink question for those that have it

We are in the early phase of building a home. I want to pre wire what I can for internet etc. I've looked at the Starlink site and various threads on here and am still somewhat confused as to the connections for the cabling.

Does Starlink use proprietary connections? Kinda looked like HDMI connections on some of the diagrams. I'd like to mount the dish on the roof or a ridge or ??? and not have to drill a hole somewhere, especially the roof. House will be spray foamed. So, as much as I can do before hand the better. Just need to know what type of connections Starlink uses.

For those who have installed it...what ya say? I'll probably set up a couple mesh routers as well as I have a shop about 100' away. thanx,.

Pm Bill M I think he had a new build recently and prewired for everything.
i do think they have proprietary connections. I just had ours installed by someone because I didn’t want to deal with it. It’s easy enough to diy it if you want to is my understanding. Hopefully others will chime in more on the connections later. Tbh members were very helpful and some mounted the satellite on a poll others on the fascia etc. They mounted mine on the fascia board in which I didn’t want but it was easiest and most convenient. Our home is spray foam along with all internal walls insulated with bats. In our case I had 2” pvc pipes from the attic to the media cabinets for a just in case. This is where they ran the Starlink cable. My installer had all the parts needed for installation. I also had them run specific piping where I knew the media components were going to be located. In these locations they put strings to be able to pull the coaxial cables and Ethernet cables.

We have Starlink. The connectors look VERY proprietary to me.
Had to make a good-sized hole in the wall for the connector.

our house will be a barndo. Guess there will need to be a hole somewhere. Would just like to put in before rather than later. Will contact Bill. thanx.

If you’re wanting to pre-wire I’d suggest the following:
          - Download the Starlink link app and use it to ensure where your wanting to place the dish has a clear view of northern sky
          - Go to the starlink store online and buy the 100’ cables they sell
          - Go ahead and pre-run the cable in conduit to wherever you’ll mount your dish and router and spray foam over the conduit

I ran this in various rooms around my new house where I wanted tv or internet connections. Whatever you put in now will probably be outdated in the future. This will make changing things out much easier. It worked great for my Starlink connection.

Smart idea to be thinking ahead like you are doing. Surely there is a way to prewire for Starlink, maybe someone will chime in.

thanx, yeah that sounds like a feasible option. Think I may be able to put dish on roof ridge and not have to drill a hole.

I was hoping to bring in the cable to a central location for a router and wireless connect to all other internet things. Guess I really need to get a starlink account and look to see what they offer.

for the 2/4 conduit. Did you run a string in ahead of time to pull cable?

shouldn’t be a problem. Yes I ran a string and then taped the starlink cable to it. The starlink cable is proprietary. I have my main starlink router on the fireplace mantle. A mesh node in the bedroom and another roughly a hundred yards away in my shop. I have Wi-Fi coverage all over including a guest house near the shop. You can purchase up to three starlink mesh nodes.

Be sure to look for a high speed fiber company in your area. I had no idea but CTTC ended up running fiber to our house. They use government money for rural internet (to run the lines).

Tim, if they can run High speed fiber to you in BFE, then they should be able to run it to me. I send ya text about it.

good info, appreciate it. that is what I was looking for. I will do something similar. My shop is less than 50 yards away.

I ran a Starlink cable into my communication hub/panel and over to the soffit with a wire attached in case I ever need to pull it out. I'm using another ISP currently so I may never need it. Just do it before closing the walls up. We didn't use foam so I didn't worry about tubing/conduit to run it in but that is a good idea with foam.
