    Axis hunt recommendations

    Hello y’all,

I’m in the beginning stages of trying to plan an axis deer hunt for myself. I have put it off long enough and it seems like every year the prices just increase. What I’m looking for is a trophy axis deer that I would want to put on my wall. Anything over 30” I consider a trophy, or atleast that’s what I’ve read. Not opposed to a high fence hunt as long as it’s not a tiny piece of property. Would prefer low fence if given the option though. I’m leaning towards a rifle hunt but archery wouldn’t be outta the question. Not looking for anything fancy necessarily as far as lodging but not gonna say no to clean sheets and air conditioning either. Looking at the June or July time frame to try and hunt em during the rut and also give me time to save some extra cash. I know we have a ton of experience on this forum and I would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations y’all have.

Thanks in advance and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I’d look into an outfitter in Sonora, Texas. Martin Hollow, Devils River outfitters, El Sapo and Rhino Outdoors are just a few off the top of my head. They all do spot and stalk with either bow or rifle.

The Flying A Ranch in Bandera has some giant axis bucks.

Brandon Blanch, El Sapo guide service is who you are looking for. I used to work with him at APD, he retired early and started guiding. I'd say he's the premier axis guide of he state. Look him up and book it.

I knew he had started an outfitting business after APD. I follow him on Instagram and they seem to run a top notch outfit. Blanch was an instructor when I went through the academy.

Good deal, I've hunted with him a few times. He's good to go.

Guy I used to work for runs hunts on his place in Junction. Don’t know prices or any details past what I see posted on Facebook, but here is the contact info should you want to reach out.

Good luck to you and will be following along. I've been wanting to do an axis hunt for a while now and I really wish I would have done it a few years ago before the big freeze. It feels like prices have gone way up and stayed way up since then. I'd love to get one some day too and hope you are able to make it happen without costing an arm and leg.

I hunted free rang Aoudad with him a few years ago and had a blast. Explain your disdain.
