    Anti's win another round

Stay up to date with all the College sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com

This info was part of a feature on "60 Minutes" last night.

Below is the article - just one of many decidions having gone against hunters and hunting. The anti's are powerful and well-funded beyond what you might think. Just saying you think PETA people are crazies won't reverse the trend.

You need to open your wallet to the organizations which protect and advocate for your hunting rights. Otherwise, they will win the war and one day you'll wake up with no hunting at all.

Here is the skinny on the recent court ruling making it illegal to harvest scimitar horned oryx.

Scimitar Horned Oryx, Addax and Dama Gazelle Update

I know that many of you have been confused by the rumors floating around the country concerning the three species, [Scimitar Horned Oryx, Dama Gazelle and Addax] and could not figure out why the Exotic Wildlife Association could not get something more definitive out to our membership. I can now tell you that your board of directors and staff have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks to represent, what we believe is best for our membership and best for the three species themselves. The decision in this matter has not been an easy one. Legal action is very costly but in reaching their decision the EWA Directors decided that the time we all knew would come one day has finally arrived. The ruling made by Judge Kennedy, in the case, was much more than a ruling against the three species. This was a ruling against our very right to do what we do. Every single person, whether you have one of the three species or whether you just support private property rights should be very concerned about the judges ruling. Without going through all of the legal language in this ruling the result is that the three species, those that are born and raised in the United States, will not be exempted from their listing on the endangered species list; although Judge Kennedy did agree that what we have done for the Scimitar Horn Oryx, Dama Gazelle and Addax has been a good thing, and he further agreed that the plaintiffs in this matter (Humane Society of the United States and Friends of Animals) have not been damaged in any way. The crucial part of his ruling is that these species will remain on the Endangered Species list and be subject to all the restrictions of that act. He stated that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service did not have the authority to exempt animals from the permitting process or the public comment period.
The Exotic Wildlife Association's Board of Directors, through a unanimous vote of its Executive Committee has decided to appeal the judge's decision. EWA has retained the services of one of the most respected private property rights law firms in the country by hiring the firm of Marzulla and Marzulla located in Washington D.C. The appeal was filed Wednesday, August 12th and will take several months to be heard by the three judge panel in Washington D.C.'s Circuit Court of Appeals.
We believe we have an outstanding chance at reversing the lower court's opinion.
Over the next few months we will be asking for our member's support in this legal battle to save these as well as other species that the Humane Society of the United States and the Friends of Animals have targeted. Remember these groups have never contributed one dime to the welfare of any animal.
The EWA is asking all of our members to refer any inquires or questions to Charly Seale at (830) 928-3158. By having a designated spokesman our message stays consistent. As you well know the media and any and all anti's will use any misstatement to their benefit as an attempt to hurt our objectives.

Where is the SCI, Dallas Safari Club and Houston Safari club on this. I thought our dues/donnations were to help stop this kind of thing.?

So as of this moment it is illegal to kill an Oryx?

Stupid people will hurt the Oryx population more than help it. Nobody wants to raise and feed animals with no return.

as discussed in that other thread posted a few weeks back when this case was decided.. ranch owners that have been propogating these species and been single handedly keeping them from extinction will now kill off their populations because the regulations/fees that are now associated with them 'isn't worth it'.. and the species will be extinct.
And it will be blamed ...yes... on the hunters.

Since PETA and other tree hugging organizations were successful in getting the Scimitar Horned Oryx, Addax and Dama Gazelle on the endangered species list...... they will continue their agenda to get other animal species also put on the list

this is definitely not good for ranchers and people who make a living catering exotics to hunters

PETA does not and has not saved a SINGLE species (animal or insect) from extinction.
They also do NOT provide funding for shelters, vets, preserves, or anything else to benefit the animals they claim to be the champions for.

They are strictly an ADVERTISING PROTEST GROUP.
Meaning, every cent donated to PETA is used in advertising campaigns, and to pay its executives, celebrities, and crews.

I bet that 60 Minutes piece done by Lara Logan last night will help the cause a great deal.

What did you think of Lara Logan interview. You think she was an advocate of hunting?

I thought she presented both sides. The woman who succeeded in getting this inane law passed (which I believe will be rescinded/overturned) looked like an idiot. Logan spent far, far more time with the ranchers in the piece and, if I HAD to guess her personal take on this, I'd guess she was on the ranchers' side.

Snipe, here's a link to the story
Here is a link to the entire video segment

Edit: Oh, and here's a link to the post about this from yesterday

Ok, the woman with the lazy mouth drove me nuts. She knows nothing but hate. She is an evil unloved individual that will stop at nothing until others believe as she does.

Yep, and because the report included her, those who watched this piece will have a much more sympathetic position for the very reasonable ranchers Logan interviewed. The contrast was striking

I'm a member of DSC, and got an email about a seminar to explain the permitting process for harvesting these animals. So I believe you can still hunt them, but there are some hoops to jump through.

I just watched the 60 Minutes video and I too think that this story leaned towards the "good" side. That woman on the bad side looked like an idiot. It is a shame that so many people who do not know squat are led to believe complete falsehoods by the leaders of some organizations.
