So we have somebody that throws their trash in our yard very often. It is always a simply orange, orange juice bottle. My wife wants to catch them and once she gets something in her mind it isn't over until it is over if you know what I mean. More than likely they throw it in our yard because they are a liberal a-hole (yes I know the 2 are synonymous) as we have (or had, see below) anti Racist Joe flags in our yard along our driveway. We live in the country or what used to be the country with "miles" of ditches on our side of the road between houses and other yards and yet the same trash is always in our yard so it isn't coincidence or random. Anyway, how would you go about catching them? Our house is far enough from the road where we couldn't use a house camera (ring, etc.) to do anything so I'm looking for ideas.
My first thought is a trail camera w/ video but I'm not sure how that would do with 1000's of cars going by a day. It is rural but VERY high traffic. I'm also not sure if the video would be good enough to pull a license plate, etc from. Battery life and card space are also a concern but I guess all it takes is the right video once and we are hopefully done. I currently have a couple of Brownings and Stealthcams at the ranch that take video so that would be my starting point. The positive would be ease of use and setup. The negatives I've already listed along with potentially having is stolen if it is visible and I'm not sure how to not make it visible.
My second thought is to order a dash camera. I've been wanting one for my a while so I could install it in my truck when I'm done. This should give me the best video which is a positive. The negative is trying to figure out how to power it as most I have seen are run off a connection to the "cigarette lighter". I guess if I could find one that runs off a straight usb I could run an extension cord and put a charging brick on it. Other than power the negative is still there about having it stolen as I don't know how I would be able to hide it very well. We have A LOT of people that turn around in our driveway which is likely where I would have to mount it.
I'm open to other suggestions or if you agree with one of my 2 mentioned suggestions I'm all ears on how you would set it up with power, memory, etc. So lets hear it, how would you catch the littering a-hole??
And since they live among us and post here, for those that will post that we are being petty, what's the point, etc. you can save it. Maybe we are being petty but I hate somebody that litters and this person has chosen us to mess with specifically. I don't like it but I can handle a random person or something blowing out of the back of somebody's truck but again this is intentional and consistent. There have been times we have picked up 10 or more of these bottles (exact same kind) out of the yard before we are able to mow. We have also had a lot of issues with people bashing the mailbox, trespassing and vandalizing including political signs in our yard (I at least fixed their *** by covering the sides of the sign they stole with tractor grease so they had that everywhere in their car and clothes after they were done) and a couple of weeks ago we had somebody tear down and destroy the flags we had in our yard, some were as deep as 20 yards into our yard. So I'm done being nice to people that trespass, litter, etc. I don't care what side of the aisle you are on there is NO excuse for going onto or damaging other people property. Period.
