    Wood Duck Hunt East Tx

Ive been fortunate to kill several species of ducks (mainly coastal divers) on the prarie over the years. Ive never had the opportunity to kill some woodies. Though I have hunted the timber before, this species has always eluded me. I lease property to deer hunt west of Diboll near the Alabama Creek WMA and have lodging there. Wondering if anyone possibly knows of an outfit, within an hr or so from there, where I can arrange to duck hunt one day this season while already at the deer lease? Angelina, Houston, Polk, or Trinity county area? Any sugesstions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I hope you find something. The best eating duck, IMO, on the planet!!! I used to fish the oxbow among the Trinity river south of Dayton, YEARS ago. We would always carry a shotgun during the season as we would get buzzed by woodies almost every trip. Such good memories push poling thru the cypress trees hanging bass, crappie and shooting ducks.

Sad part is.....I watch them fly over the tree tops passing over my lease while in the blind, but dont have access to where they are currently traveling to/from.

Agree. Same here woodys then teal and wedgeon for my preference but then again I like wild ducks period. All about how to prepare and cook them.

You could try pass shooting them, they generally stick to the same flight paths.

Find a spot on that WMA, probably the easiest duck to kill there is. Far more predictable than the rest. Youd be amazed at the size of a creek you can find them in.

I jumped a minimum of 50 out of an oxbow last weekend that might be 5 yds wide x 40 yds long.

Find buttonbrush, duckweed, and acorns... theyll be close!

                        Perfect spot for them.

You just have to be careful, you can blow them out pretty quick and they wont be back. I usually jump shoot a pair of drakes a year off one of the creeks on our place. We dont have them like we used to. Once the timber company cut all the hardwoods off the creeks they got really sparce.

My plan is to do this....we have some creeks on the property. But I also wanted to go on a dedicated hunt as well. In the event my attempts yeild poor results.
