I have a Taurus 1911 , 45 cal that I really like to carry and shoot , BUT at the end of the day it is just too heavy to carry with comfort any long period of time. I also have a Smith and Wesson 9mm that I also like to carry and shoot but it also begins to get heavy after a while . What do you guys like that you can carry and the weight does not become a bother ? I would like to stay with 9mm if possible. Both are OWB holsters if that has anything to do with it . This is also mainly for carrying around the lease more than self defense , although comfort might equate to carrying more often .Any thoughts you would like to share on this ?

If you want to continue to carry OWB then a compact but not micro 9mm is possibly your best bet.
I have a S&W Shield 9mm Plus that is the size of the original Shield but has a 13 shot magazine, plus one in the tube so you can have a 14 shot compact that is a good bit lighter than a full size pistol. Other brands carry similar option high capacity compact 9mm pistols that are good but all of my pistols are S&W M&P so I have stuck with that platform.
If you want to stay with a .45 then the Glock 30sf is a more compact version and with a10 round magazine should be a bit lighter. I have shot the 30sf and it is a good shooting pistol for a lighter .45 option.

IMO if you’re in shape then nothing is more comfortable than appendix carry. However as soon as you get a little get that quickly turns uncomfortable. I carry a G43X with comp and G48 both with a Conceal Craft Appendix holster. However late last year I put on about 20 lbs, and that quickly went from everyday carry to occasional carry. I’ve since lost the weight again, and have resumed carrying daily. I’m trying not to make that mistake again.

I know its not exactly what you asked, but I chose a Ruger LCP2 .380 for every day carry. I picked this because it fits in my pocket, back pocket for jeans and front pocket for slacks. I wanted to carry everyday and I picked a gun that I knew I would be able to commit to. I know it may not be the best caliber, but having a gun is better than not having a gun when you need it.
A sturdier belt may help your carry fatigue or maybe look at a different setup like a chest rig.

Academy doesn't carry either
The belt i wear every day for up to 10 hours weighs around 15lbs without a radio or a taser.Last edited by Greenheadless; 11-29-2023, 06:07 PM.

Edit: Sorry, I should have mentioned this earlier. The belt selection is as important to me almost as much as holster. The wrong support belt can make anything feel off. I use Nextbelt for all my off duty applications. I have one in different colors for wearing suits as well as everyday/tactical application. I wear one for carrying when I go running, walks and or hiking.Last edited by TKC; 11-30-2023, 10:53 AM.
