    TYHP Rock Ridge #2

Got the call a couple weeks ago my daughter was invited to the Rock Ridge Forum hunt in Jacksboro, TX. Come to find out they had a last minute cancellation and needed a 4th and asked if I knew anyone willing and who had hunter ed, which I quickly responded my 13 year old does. Couple phone calls later and got him approved, and we were going to make it a weekend! Arrived real late on Friday due to scheduling and traffic. Got the tent set up and had a great meal. Up early and hit the blinds. My daughter has yet to put down a deer, so I sat with her while a TYHP guide and his son sat with my son. First morning, we got skunked, but man the view sure was pretty. Hunter was able to connect on a nice doe and man what a shot. That 243 literally knocked this doe off her feet. If I can find a way to upload the video, I will. Went back to camp, hit the stocked fishing pond and had a great, hot breakfast. About 1p, everyone took to the range for some 22 fun and more confidence building with our rifles. Back to camp for lunch and more fishing. Went out that evening and we seen some pigs and a doe right at last light, but just couldn't get it all to work out. Hunter seen some nice bucks, but bucks were not on the menu this go round. Back at camp at a wonderful supper and sharing stories around the campfire. Sunday morning and we decided to all sit together. We snuggled up in the blind and seen lots of nice bucks, and couple spikes, but no does. About 20 minutes left to hard cease fire, we seen ye ol songdog come trotting across the plot. I looked at Kymber and asked if she wanted to shoot him and her eyes lit up. She rested the 243 on the sandbag, I gave the ol "whooo" and he stopped. She absolutely hammered old wiley for her first kill. I couldn't be more proud. TYHP is a wonderful program and this is my 3rd time with them, each being great experiences. Thank you again TYHP for giving families an opportunity to come together and make good memories in such a evil world.

Looks like a great time! Congrats to your kids.

The TYHP is the best thing the State does for hunting. I took my daughter of 4 of those hunts before she was too old to participate. My grandkids enjoy the program now.

We did Rock Ridge as well last year with TYHP and had a blast fishing. Looks a lot greener than a year ago. Congrats to your kiddos on the hunt!
