Dad and I went up to hunt the Oklahoma ground for a few days over the weekend. It was a little slower than I expected for mature deer, but the action started to pickup Saturday evening with some shooters spotted and several showing on the cams. Yesterday morning Dad was able to get it done on his biggest buck to date.
He shot the buck at 28 yards and knew he made a good shot, but due to the tall grass he did not see that the buck only made it 6-7 steps aways. Shortly after shooting this buck an even bigger buck came in. He said he came in and was pawing and hooking the ground in the brush. He assumed he was working a scrape, but come to find out he was working on his buck on the ground!!
Alcohol induced decisions kept me from having much of a relationship with my Dad until I became an adult and he got sober. Now he is one of the best men I know and the best Pawpaw to my kids. Here in recent years we have tried to make up for alot of lost time on family trips, but this was our first ever hunting trip for just the two of us. This trip meant a lot for me and him killing his biggest buck to date was just icing on the cake!
