22-250 is a great round for deer. Also, I purchased a 6 mm arc bolt rifle for my wife. I was really impressed with that round. Pretty much a .243 that allows you to shoot a little heavier bullet. My wife’s rifle loves the 103 gr Elite Bergers. I got them barking at 2850 fps and personally think I could go faster but what for. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot deer out to 400 yards with it.

308, especially if you can suppress it.
The 7-08 is a very comparable round but 308 tends to be more readily accessible. I have 300 WMs, one set up for a can and the other isn’t. I grab my 308 more often than not.
Related, my now 20 year old daughter has been shooting the 308 I’m talking about since she was 13. She’s a small girl to this day, currently about 5’ 2” and very slender. She was seven smaller when she started shooting that rife.

243 or 308
We have several Remington 700 tactical rifles in 308 and any one can shoot them. The barrel gives them a little weight and there is no noticeable recoil.
243 is another great option.
What ever you get make sure it had a little weight to it. These cheap, light guns are what kick like a mule.

7mm-08 is my goto for deer and elk in most cases but, I cannot say it is less recoil. My best load is 162 gn at 2600 so recoil is more than most loads. .I am currently mulling over getting a fast twist (7.5) .243 or a 6cm. 95gn Nosler bt will stabilize in most .243 rifles and will take deer or elk with less recoil. Finally .223 is a great cartridge for Texas deer. My rifle will stabilize 69 gn hpbt but I do not have the twist to go higher.

go with the 7mm08, you will never need another deer rifle,,,, you might want one someday but it wont be because your unhappy the 7mm08! It has mild recoil, long range, big enough bullets for any deer however far you want to shoot them.... the 243 is ok but not great,,,, i have seen more than a couple deer shot with out exit holes, and they usually do the most blood flow... I will always prefer a bullet that exits especially in the woods
