I was fortunate this evening to kill a nice axis doe with my bow on some family land near Kerrville. She came into bow range this evening at 5:30. I drew back on her at 20 yards as she was munching on some chaffhaye I had thrown out this afternoon. Right as I was about to touch the trigger she turned her back to me, so I had to let down. Five minutes later, she was broad side again, so I touched it off. I knew I drilled her, but I’ve never seen a deer haul *** the way she did as she was running out of sight 80 yards at a full sprint, appearing completely unhurt. I guess she was running on adrenaline. I got out right at dark and she was only another 30 yards from where I last saw her. First kill of the year, and good meat for the freezer.
