    My dog hates me

Took my 2 year old Great Pyrenees LGD male to get snipped today. We got him a year ago to be a guard dog for our chickens. He’s doing a pretty good job, still learning the ropes. A little over a month ago, a female dog came thru our place, with an accompanying male dog, which ended up killing 15-20 chickens. The female dog was apparently in heat, which distracted my dog from his duties. Anyway, for the last 2 weeks he’s been getting out of our 10 acres and running around. I decided it was time….
He’s always been a little timid, and does not like to be corralled, or handled. But he always goes with me to the barn when I go to feed. I locked him in the yard fence last night, and with my wife’s help this morning, we were able to put a leash on him and load him into the back of the vehicle to take to the vet on my way to work this morning. I physically had to pick him up and carry him into the vets office. When I went to pick him up after work, he did not want me to catch him, and it took myself and one of the technicians, about 15 minutes to get him loaded up to go home. I put him back inside the yard fence to keep him out of the pond for the next 4-5 days.
We just got home from church, and as soon as he sees me getting out of the car, he runs to the other side of the yard. He doesn’t want anything to do with me. Looks like it’s Gonna be a while before he settles down.

If you cut my cajones off, I would be avoiding you like you had covid, measles, cooties, and …….chiggers !

Sounds like he didn’t like you much before you took him to get cut, now he really doesn’t like you lol

I'm no dog whisperer, but I see lotsa treats in your future.

He needs to identify you as a source of pleasure and companionship, not the guy who wrestles him in a vehicle to take him places he doesn't want to go.

Yes and especially after he chased that female and found out the little brain overrides reasoning with the big brain.

Just out of curiosity why did you wait so long to get him cut? 2 years with his testicles is a long time. He knew what they were for by that time. He may never forget that you took him to get them cut out.

Just hadn’t had a chance to get it done. And I knew it was gonna be challenging to get him in a vehicle. Normally, we have a mobile Vet that gives our larger dogs their shots.

On the way out the door this morning, I offered him a piece of chicken jerky like I usually do. He approached me, and took it out of my hand and then retreated back to the corner of the yard to eat it. Hope….

Trust the process. You'll be watching wrestling on the couch together, sharing a popsicle in no time.

Chicken jerky? That's worse than getting your nuts cut off. Bone in rib eyes for you and the wife and give the bones to the dawg...

Haha. He gets pretty decent leftovers. But the chicken jerky treats are an everyday thing. Last week, my wife found sound 3 year old homemade sausage in the freezer. It was a little too freezerburned for her taste, so it was cooked, and I’ve been giving him 3-4 ounces at a time.

This is why I would always have my wife take the animals to get this type of work done. Haha

Sounds like a smart dog. He will forgive eventually.

Ouch! Our pup that I've asked prayers for is part Great Pyrenees and germanshapard. He was born with a hole in his heart and needed PDA surgery.
Had we not gotten this taken care of we were told he wouldn't make it a year, so I hope he's not upset with us.

                              Hope your pup comes around.
