    Help: Balcones Canyonlands Youth hunt

I’ve been putting my sons in for these youth hunt draws for a couple of years and my older boy managed to draw subject hunt this year. We are in compartment 1-1 2nd weekend in Nov.

Problem is I have no idea what we’ve gotten ourselves into. Can someone give me an idea of what to expect? Are there blinds? Do we need to bring a pop up? How does this work?

Unfortunately we will not be able to make it out to scout before the hunt so walking in blind.

Thanks for any help advice you can give.

I would just sit down with my back against a big cedar tree where you can see around you a ways. Stay off the sides of the hills and hunt on top or in the bottoms, top preferable. I've never hunted on the place but have been over most of it. They have cleared the cedar off the hill tops so lots of browse there as well as you can see further. Good luck, I hope he gets one.

There should be blinds for that hunt. Not to discourage you but that draw hunt has produced very poor results over the years. Theres been a few threads here about members not seeing anything, heres a thread, https://www.texasbowhunter.com/discu...ands-nwr/page5

I drew it a few years ago and never went.

Well ****. You think it’s worth going? He was going to miss a baseball tournament for this.

Did a little more reading after looking through those threads, thanks.

We are in unit 1 with 5 other hunters. No blinds, just assigned parking spots spread out throughout the unit. Looks pretty wide open by my parking spot.

I coach my sons baseball team and he has played for many years and loves the sport. However, personally I wouldn't miss a tournament for this hunt. Thats just my opinion though, again you dont know until you have boots on the ground but based on what other people have posted over the years it's not a quality hunt.

Looks like we may be seeing y'all out there if you go. My son drew 1-1 this weekend

Good luck! With the poor reports I left the decision up to my son and he chose to play baseball this weekend. I’ll PM you my parking spot if you want to use it at all this weekend.
