    Generator WIFI advice

Just had a 26K Generac generator put in. It is about 100 feet from my house and router. There is a WIFI on the generator with an APP on my phone. The signal at the generator is not strong enough - ideas on a fix?

Sounds like you need an exterior WiFi repeater. It will extend your home network to pick up the generator.

Contact who installed it. That should be a function that is working before they leave. Install not completed in my opinion.

The WiFi is on the generator or on the transfer switch? Hopefully there is an external antenna, a small Yagi (directional) would be nice as you could aim the signal towards your router instead of scattering it in a 360 degree circle. I say external, because antenna inside of metal containers don't work very well.

This is my problem with a bunch of stuff. A gen set should simply make power when needed. Should do a test run Friday at 7:40 pm when you are at home.
I do not want to be connected by my smart phone to my lights, generator, cars, door bell camera, security stuff etc...

I have wondered the same thing. If power goes out the transfer switch will kick the generator on. Not sure why the app working on my phone matters other than to check the generator when away from home? What am I missing?

I agree should not need it. But if its a feature I expect it to be working once installled. This is an incomplete installation in my opinion.

I'm trying to figure out a system to alert me when the generator kicks on. Mine runs on diesel and I would like to know so that arrangements can be made to refuel before the supply of fuel is exhausted. It takes awhile to prime a diesel engine. I sort of keep a running total in my head or run time and exercise time.

the problem is not with the generator - it is that my router/modem in my house does not send a strong enough signal to the outdoor generator that is 100 feet away.

this could be the answer but when I read the reviews they say it is pretty difficult to set this system up - I am not savvy on alot of that stuff so I guess I would have to find someone who knows how to do the set up?

I guess I am showing my age. I own a 20 year old internet company and am very tech savy for 70 years old. Two of my cars are in my phone and the ring camera dings my phone every day. Just yesterday the security company came by to up grade me to 5G. They asked me if I wanted the app on my phone and I said ---- no.
Our 2dr sports car dings the wife's phone. I will pull up the driveway and she will be waiting for me. What the heck are you doing? Rapid exhilaration, cornering, hyper braking? Just getting breakfast taco's dear.

Let me add: you want to be home when the generator self tests. Putting it on your phone is not a bad idea. You do not want a broken generator in the back yard. My generator people put it on noon Friday. Well I am here till 12:30 or so and I hear it every week. Most folks are gone noon Friday. Defiantly keep up with it's well being...

Understood. If the extender/repeater didn’t work. I would test to make sure it is working properly before spending more $$. Have you tried using a cell.phone as a hot spot.to.connect to wifi and confirming all is good with the gens wifi unit. Good luck.
