Now that we have it behind us and I can breathe a little, I wanted to take a few minutes to brag on my boys.
We decided to do show pigs this year as the boys have been wanting to show something and we have a friend whos daughter shows. We got in touch with their pig guy who unselfishly helps families around the area with pigs. Since we used the same guy, we sort of partnered up with my friend so that our kids could do this together. Pig camps, jackpot shows, evening meet ups to walk our pigs at different places, our kids were committed this year.
Show time came which happened to be our pig guys birthday as well, so we were hoping to deliver some winners for him. Ultimately, all 3 kids ended up in medium weight class, so the competition was on, in a good way. Show time came, and as all 13 pigs in the class got in the ring, one by one the judge sifted them out starting at the bottom, and next thing we knew, the 3 pigs left were my two boys and my friends daughter. My oldest ended up in 3rd, my youngest in 2nd and my friends daughter 1st, top 2 were held back for the championship drive. We needed my friends daughter to get Grand Champion so that my son could come back out for Reserve, and that's exactly what happened, and shortly after driving his pig back into the ring, the judge handed my youngest son Reserve Grand Champion. He was also able to come back and compete for Jr Showmanship, which he focused and drove that pig and focused on the judge, and ended up taking that award as well.
So not only did we all dominate our class, but we took the show as well. Our pig guy had a huge smile that night.
My boys really stepped up and worked hard at it this year, and i couldn't be more proud. Looking forward to the next one.
