    Direct Fire Cookers

I'm slowly leaning into the direct fire charcoal grill market, but I would like to get something that will last. I've been buying the cheap Wal-mart grills because I typically left them at the ranch for years or they fell apart from overuse. Those things are more like hamsters or Bic lighters. When they break, just go buy another one for $20. AND I'm getting close to needing another one.

We built a direct fire cooker for doing links, ribs, chickens, etc, at small cook-offs, but its a monster and a pain to move around. Plus its at my brother's house. I feel like a backyard PK style grill is what I'm thinking for size, weight and mobility. I do have a 4 burner gas grill, but that thing stays on the patio.

What brands, types, size grills do you guys like for charcoal cooking that won't break the bank?

For reference, its for me and the wife with the occasional guests. Steaks, pork chops, burgers, sausage are typical table fare.

    Let me know cuz.

Weber Kettle is hard to beat. Controls heat (hot or low) and prevents flair ups by closing down air vents.

The Weber 22” Performer Deluxe grill has color options and includes electronic ignition, large work table, LCD cook timer, and charcoal storage bin.

Have had to replace the charcoal grates 2 times I have cooked on them so long. 30+ year, same grill and still going strong. Replacement parts are easy to get and change out as needed.

Same as above. Weber Kettle all day. I have the Performer Delux with the table and starter. Warrenty is great, customer service is hard to beat and they have stood the test of time. Also lots of cool after market accessories available. Can do it all from hot dogs and hamburgers to briskets, ribs and rotisserie.

Not mobile, but you wont find a better made grill than a green egg.

I've used my neighbors egg and it is awesome. But it might as well be an anchor.

22’ kettle most versatile on the market. Hotdogs to ribs to brisket to turkey breast, lots of great accessories and easy to modify.
