I'm slowly leaning into the direct fire charcoal grill market, but I would like to get something that will last. I've been buying the cheap Wal-mart grills because I typically left them at the ranch for years or they fell apart from overuse. Those things are more like hamsters or Bic lighters. When they break, just go buy another one for $20. AND I'm getting close to needing another one.
We built a direct fire cooker for doing links, ribs, chickens, etc, at small cook-offs, but its a monster and a pain to move around. Plus its at my brother's house. I feel like a backyard PK style grill is what I'm thinking for size, weight and mobility. I do have a 4 burner gas grill, but that thing stays on the patio.
What brands, types, size grills do you guys like for charcoal cooking that won't break the bank?
For reference, its for me and the wife with the occasional guests. Steaks, pork chops, burgers, sausage are typical table fare.
Let me know cuz.
