    FFA show chicken feed.

Which brand of poultry feed do y'all use for show chickens? Way to many for me decide.

MG Turkey starter crumbles days 1-10
Spread Wing Bands using a screwdriver to allow growth and ability to read tag # at day 11
MG Turkey starter Show Broiler Pellets half/half crumble/pellets days 11-17
MG Show Broiler pellets day 18-20
Switch to Producers Show Broiler Finisher Pellets days 21-34

The rest is top secret, but this will get you in the right direction. Make sure you cull at two intervals. More space and more feed/water available will = larger birds. Keep them warm but not too warm after week 3. Hot birds don’t eat as much. Add shavings every evening and completely change out shavings once/week at least. Air circulation with fresh air is key to keep ammonia levels down. Clean water containers and add fresh water daily.

Good luck. Also, make sure you read and understand all the rules and applications for the show you’ll be exhibiting. Make sure you turn in any necessary forms along the way and after showing should your exhibitor get placed in an auction/sale. Make a flyer to send to buyers groups and always smile/make eye contact with the judge

I like Producers Co-Op out of Bryan. I feel like they have the best feed on the market. Their feed is fresh and never months old like Purina in our area. I agree with Sackett in general above. Our biggest key is stir the birds as often as possible and cull early and often. No bird that’s behind at two weeks will make your final pen.

What devices do y'all use to get the chickens up to eat? Alarm clock, air compressor trick with slow leak?

I used small coffee cans I cut in half and put feed in them. When the birds get big and lazy I place the food in front of them to keep them eating. Think of you laying on the couch and a bag of chips laying there. You would naturally snack on them. I always placed very very well when I use to show.

Mount a deer feeder motor/timer next to the wall
secure a heavy duty tie wrap to the spinner plate
when timer goes off, it slaps the wall

Adding Carnation powered milk makes for whiter fat , I don’t know if that’s still a thing for show chicken

My son won GC twice and RGC several times in our county using purina and producers feed plans. When we switched from purina, we used the producers feed packages from A&B. That made it easy to manage the project- having everting plus their raising plan . Quality feed, temperature, space, fresh water, clean shavings and time in the pen yield success.

Today was the livestock show in Shiner and my son placed 4th out of 13 pens of chickens. I'm very proud of the effort he put in to these last 6 weeks.

I don’t know anything about chickens but my wife owns a restaurant and during show chicken feeding times her bacon grease is in high demand.
