    Hunting scrapes

Do y'all hunt near scrapes if you find them? I have a camera out over some hand corn. I have gotten several pics of different bucks working a scrape. I actually found like 3 different ones. They are in a funnel coming from a field into the woods. I have a few daytime pics but mostly night pics. Also, I have no does on camera, but at least 6-7 different bucks coming to eat the hand corn.

    Thanks!

I will hunt specific scrapes, not just a scrape line. And at specific times

I create scrapes in my kill zone, I just clean out leaves and grass to expose dirt, take a leak and spray a little coon pee to the side. I also create a rub on an overhead branch

What times do you hunt it?

Open field where it funnels down into the woods. There 3 within probably 50ft. Only have camera pointed at one, which is close to where I have hand corn. Didn’t realize it was there until I saw pic of buck using the licking branch above it. Adjusted camera and have 3 different bucks using it.

Is there anything I should put in it closer to rifle season? My blind is about 65-70yds north of it. Got a pop up brushed in.

When I find 3, 4, or more scrapes in close proximity, I then make my own scrape. Once the other bucks start to use it, I’ll hunt it and throw out a few grunt calls. Lot of times I can call them in cause they want to check the new guy out.

Funnel with multiple scraps, this is a hot spot. Make sure to hunt down wind and get some distance.

I will not hunt a single scrape unless it is very large.
The giant scrapes are almost always community scrapes. I hunted one south of Brackettville that was 1/2 the size of a truck hood, and 4" deep, and witnessed numerous bucks and doe come in and use it over a 3 day period.

Think you have it covered, maybe another spot just in case you can't get the right wind to hunt it.

This is a topic that has opinions all over the board imo. Always very interesting to read and listen to each individual to try and learn something new myself. I am sure everyone(myself included) has a very valid reason for their mindset or reasoning behind why they do hunt them or not. Myself personally I don’t shoot deer much anymore but still scout and look for rubs and scrape lines around my immediate property and woods. I have always found scraps interesting (be it weird or not). For example my Dad would see a certain types of soft barked trees and walk out of his way to take a look.

These type scrapes you have mentioned above are always a honey hole from my experiences.
