where to search/post for IT jobs ??

ive had enough! i signed up and posted up on careerbuilder and monster, where else should i be signing up for I.T. jobs? havent done this in many years.

i have had a good career here for 11+ years serving to our customer. well that customer we serviced was bought out in 2010, and late 2011 they told us they are through with our I.T. services and will be bringing the jobs in house. we will be laid off from our company. and of course we can apply/interview with the new owners of that company we were contracted to. layoff was to be Nov. 19. 2 weeks prior, extended to Dec. 22. then 2 weeks prior, extended to Jan. 17, then 1 week prior, extended to Jan. 27.

2 sites here in DFW, the large parent site, we all watched as 1 by 1, guys at the large parent site were hired and transitioned over. little change and 2 guys were not hired.

my smaller site, my boss got notice he will not be hired, my coworker retired at Christmas, leaving only me....while at this site, i have had better customer ratings, and met or exceeded statement of labor every month, better ratings than the larger site. since the first of the year, i have been maintaining this site alone! and keeping up! ALONE! no brainer right? hire me!

last week a new lead for my site was hired from the outside. they said since this site is smaller they wanted to see if they could change things up a bit. TAKE A HIGHER RATED SITE AND SCREW IT UP?!?!? let this new lead have input into who gets hired. he has never worked here before. younger than me, not even half the years experience i have, and some things on this job i have shown him, he has never done, never seen done, no knowledge of and admits it will take quite a while to learn how to do. so hire me!! right? i am the most knowledgeable person about this site. team at the other site and customers here all say im staying, i aint goin no where, they would be stupid not to hire me. ect ect. common sense would say they need my experience here.....

i just got another extension to Feb. 17!!!!! ARE YOU #%@!*&^% KIDDING!!!! the site manager of this company is NOT I.T., but has input as to who gets hired and thinks he can shake it up a bit. the I.T. manager has no idea where every network/communication room is, and doesnt know how/where all the wiring works. he is ONLY I.T. book smart!!! can not nor has he ever done my job!! but i must make it look easy so they think their new guy can do it. now they think, well maybe he needs a few more weeks with me so they extend me!!!! no clue if they want to hire me or just use me to train new folks....tired of waiting for common sense, im starting to search with or without them.

sorry, rant over, just needed to vent and get some ideas for job search

Have you made it apparent that you want to be hired full time?

Haha! Yea, I have told the hiring managers 2X on email and 2X person to person. I have told this new lead I am training, that I wish to stay a few times as well.

I have had several customers tell me and the new lead man that they really hope I am selected to stay, they want me to be the one hired, etc. etc. I hope he is seeing I am wanted here. BUT you never know what these jack wagons will do

There are a lot of IT User Groups out there. Find one that matches what you do and start attending meetings and start networking.

For example if you were a .NET developer in Austin, I would attend the following meetings:

http://www.agileaustin.org/ (attend main meeting + SIG meetings)

http://cactuss./ (if you do anything with SQL server)

and finally I would attend some of the networking events like the http://door64.com/ I believe the door64 happy hours are expanding from Austin and picking up Dallas so you should check them out.

The key is not to blindly just post resumes from what you find on dice.com, etc. gete out and network. Use LinkedIn. If you find a position on dice, use linkedin to see if you have a path to someone in that company. From there network, network, network. Work the angle of a employee referral instead of a blind resume coming in from the internet.

                      Again key is to network...

Another thing is use recruiters. Places like TekSystems, etc. are usually national and they have a lot of those connections already built. Use them!
