    Another Lesson Learned

I went back and looked at some of the old threads I had posted. I didn't realize but I have posted a few times about getting people's opinions on what and how to attract deer? I do apologize for so many posts on same subject. Anyway, my lesson learned this past season is that CORN is the best attractant. I tried a lot of stuff. I put out blocks that nothing ever touched them. I even poured out bags of rice bran that nothing ever touched it. Because of finances and time and small acerage I have also learned from TBH that minerals and protein are not my best route either. So, for next season it will be CORN with a little Buck Candy mixed in at the beginning. We'll see how that works. And if it doesn't, straight CORN will be the ticket. Some things work in some areas for some people that don't work in others and vice versa. Thanks for all of the responses and advice

10-4 good buddy! Your conclusion is right on!! Never tried buck candy. Been seeing a lot of talk about it. Not really sold yet.

We are all looking for that perfect, sure-fire ingredient that will attract deer and hogs. Short of a food plot or something like that, it seems like good ol' corn trumps everything else. Thanks for sharing you experiment results. Like you I've tried koolaid, corn meal, salt, syrup, sugar, various products from the stores and multiple concoctions.

What we have found is that the deer are trained to like the corn. If you want to train them on other feeds, you usually have to wean them over. I've seen this done with protein, cotton seed and so forth. Usually have to mix with corn to start and slowly merge to the other.
