    m-44 cyanide for 'yotes

Abnout 6 years ago we hada federal guy come out and put the little capsule deals on the ranch to kill coyotes. He spent about a month coming out every 4-5 days checking it. I was young and dad doesnt remember how many he killed but we never saw or heard another....till saturday morning before light i am in the stand and they start howlin...then I saw one about fifty yards behind a protein feeder, gun was in the truck. We have caught a couple in snares but they have become wise to the snares now.

we wantto go back to the m-44's but we cant find any recent info on it, not to mention any contact info.

    Any thoughts?

Go to your county ext office and request help in trapping the coyotes and ask if they recommend a local trapper..

George Fry has been the Federal Trapper in Hays county for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure of his area but you way want to look his number up. He's in Dripping Springs

Ignore them, they aren't hurting your deer and unless you are a goat or sheep farmer you should leave them alone.

We have a government/county trapper around our lease and if we hear or see coyotes, our landowner contacts him and he will be there with m-44's within a couple days.

There is a lot of sheep and goat ranching in that area so he really does take care of the problem quickly. I wouldnt go as far as saying that the coyotes arent hurting our deer though.

Yotes, really do not take a toll on adult deer, but in late spring and summer they take a toll on the fawns...

Dave , just out of curiosity, have you had livestock or really worked a ranch or farm with livestock???

                      Just curious..

Not trying to be a butt, but there is not a MYTH about coyotes or bobcats, its FACTS, that you learn from and the facts get exspensive when you start loosing young livestock regaurdless of the kind.. coyotes are sometimes hard on grown cattle, but its usally just there tails...

With your love of coyotes and bobcats, heck I wonder why you even bother to hunt deer, heck they are'nt hurting you...

Dave- I would agree that coyotes are not that big of a threat to the deer. I did However watch 2 coyotes take down a doe in Blanco county one day. I'll also add that the high fence probably kept her from getting away. I hate the things. They killed 10 of my rams in 2 days time.

Not hard on the adult deer but they sure can screw up some hunting if they stay in the area.

What are you basing this on Dave? Sheep and Goats aren't all that have to be wary of them. We have lost calves to yotes before. The last 2 evening hunts have ended as the yotes started yelping and sent the deer scattering.

They're hell on calves, and adult cattle during and after calving. I have seen this 1st hand. I've shot coyotes on 2 occasions, that were playing tug of war with a 1/2 dead fawn........again 1st hand.

Granted they are less of a problem when their numbers are kept in check. But when the yote population isn't controled the 1st rough (dry) year will bring problems. And the more there are, the braver they get.

I'm not sure I follow your logic Dave, though I would like to hear it.
