    cattle or no ?

If you had a fairly large ranch would you run cattle on it or just leave it for the wildlife ? Could most likely run 100 head of cows fairly easy. If I had cattle I would have someone tending to them, maybe a sweat equity type deal where they would get a percentage of the profit and possibly some hunting rights.

Cattle. You can kill them year round to feed family.

I would not own a cow if I had ten thousand acres, but I was born and raised on a dairy.

I had “rent-a-cows” on my place until about two weeks ago. Leased my pastures out to a guy for hay only. I hate cattle! Had the pasture leased for grazing to keep the ag-exemption. This new guy cuts hay so no cattle!!

If I had the funds where the ag exemption ect didn't matter there's no way I'd have cattle on the place. But that's just me.

I would have cattle. I just can’t help myself. We’ve pretty much always had cattle. If I see land with no cows on it then I think it’s a waste of good land but that’s just me.

I have had people tell me that it will all grow up with briars and weeds with no cattle, they said cattle would actually help the property if not over grazed. What about running a bunch of steers if you have good grazing then selling them off well before hunting season ? If the wheat makes there is about 175 acres total of it.

Now’s not a good time, cattle are high right now.
                I would.

Same here , livestock in a minimum amount has always been a thing, looks like we are moving to Oklahoma and the place has 157 of pasture so cattle or some other type ( no horses !!! ) stock

If money doesn’t matter I probably wouldn’t mess with them, but really when does money never matter!

cow/calf operations will take up time and resources to tend and feed them year around. My dad and brothers have ran cow/calf operations for over 50 years. This type operation takes up quite a bit of time and planning.
stocker yearlings would be less time and planning for sure. They would only be on the property for part of the year. Could probably plan it out to remove them in the fall before first freeze.
If making money on the property or Ag tax exempt is not an issue and you want it for hunting recreational use only I would not run cattle on it. You can do habitat improvements without cattle. It just takes planning and different types of improvements.

I don't think I have ever talked to a cattlemen that said they made money on cows :-)

Cattle are hell on deer browse and bedding/ fawning areas. If your focus is deer and you can afford to avoid the cattle then definitely no cows. Or possibly create a no cattle sanctuary in the middle of the property.

No cows on mine. Let neighbor run his for a couple of months every 4-5 years just to break down old grass etc. Wildlife exemption for us. You will definitely have fewer deer if you run cows.

Terminating the grass lease was the first thing I did when I bought my place. The rancher had it overstocked and grazed down to dirt. And as mentioned by others, the native wildlife flourished when the cattle were removed.
