First I've heard of it. But quick google search shows each bid costs $1. So .01 increment is $1 increment for the seller. $1 increase in auction price is $100 for seller etc etc. Great for those who can bid little and win an item.

Think of it more like you're gambling, because you are. So you have high risk high cost with chance for no pay out or high risk low cost for high pay out.
