please feel free to pm me any questions. I have been in the electrical field for 30 years. I will be more than willing to help in any way I can.Last edited by Rubi513; 09-23-2023, 10:32 PM.

Been down that road. I used that whole list between strippers and nut drivers. All klien brand which is now apparently available at lowes.
Maybe add sheet rock saw, a wiggy, tick tracer, and one of those screw drivers klien makes for screwing couplings together. It's short and is kinda like a nut driver but has a flat blade screwdriver in it. And you'd be amazed how much a reverse able pocket screw driver came in handy
Second what rubi said. You won't need a whole set of nut drivers. The only time I used them was changing ballasts really

We appreciate all the info, gonna have to pace myself through all this and talk to him over the next week and see what's all applicable. Of course being dad I wanna buy him everything but he probably doesn't need to be carrying an entire shop around with him just yet. I went ahead and ordered him a Klein belt with the basic set of hand tools and a good level and tape measure, he mentioned the level and tape measure specifically. The jobsite he worked yesterday they were pulling cable for Tesla charging stations but that was extra OT work. I think after he gets some reps in at his normal assigned site he'll start figuring out what else he needs so I'm trying to talk myself into taking it slow and not buying everything under the sun. He planned on just buying his own but I told him I'd split it with him if he lets me buy better stuff and he agreed, but I need his approval to buy stuff since he's on the hook for half.

I'm 58 and still have several Kleins I purchased at 19 that I use from when I was a journeyman. Common handtools tools that get used a lot. Needlenose with stripper hole, dikes, linemans, cable cutter, channel locks, jointed pliers, nut drivers, split head screw driver, hardened steel punch, speed screwdriver, torpedo level, wiggy, vohm, spring stripper, good pocket knife, stripper with screw cutter, crimper, 30ft tape, multi tap, multi bit screw driver, Allen keys, Drill bit set, socket set, pipe wrench, hammer, keyhole saw, etc.
Granted many things from Home Depot and HF are good starter tools, but the hand tools that you used daily need to handle the repeated use. Which I believe Klein are best.
