Replacement house window glass, Houston area

I need to replace the glass in a couple of windows. They are insulated ( IGU ). Previously I have ordered online, but was hoping to find a place I could deal with locally, hoping it would be a bit cheaper. So far everyone I have contacted wants to do the labor of replacing the glass, but I want to do it myself. Its easy enough and paying $300 for installation just isnt worth it. Literally takes like 15min.

I just want to order the glass based on my measurements and specifications and go pick it up and pay for it.
Buying online, the cost for 2 panes is a couple hundred more than the cost of an entire new window.. Have considered just replacing the entire windows, which isnt a big deal, but is certainly more involved.....

I guess I didnt actually ask the question. Does anyone know of a place in the Houston, Tomball etc area that will make ( assemble ) and sell the glass without doing the installation? Surely the installers are getting it done somewhere.

Any glass company should be able to order IG glass panels for you. How old are your windows? Most window manufacturers offer a 25 year warranty on their glass these days.

They are 23yrs old. Cant find the manufacturer name anywhere and dont remember unfortunately. I have messaged a couple of companies ( through their site ) that appear to make them, but havent heard back from anyone. The one that did reply made it clear they want to install it.

I think you are trying to cut out the middleman. Complete Line Glass Wholesalers is in Houston and make the glass units but I doubt they will sell to an individual, however you can try them.

They'll most likely have a 1/4" spacer, more modern I/G units use 1/2"+ spacer between the panes. That will matter because the glazing channel will be probably be too narrow on your windows to accommodate the thicker glass unit.

You are correct. Total thickness is 1/2". Each pane is 1/8". Looks like it may be best to suck it up and order online like the last time. Admit it kinda hurts paying $180ea x 4 though...

Dang. That sounds like way too much. You could probably replace the window for less, but that opens up a whole new can of worms. You've checked with your local glass company on these?

I used West End Lumber for my windows. They come measure & build then you can use a installer they recommend or do it yourself.
Considerably less than the big name window companies.
