    Cows with Game Cameras

Does anyone have a good solution for cows messing up cameras? We have feeder pens, but mounting the cameras inside feeder pens moves them too close. Most of the areas there is not a good tree to mount it on so we have them on T posts with HME T post mounts. This has been lasting only a couple of days recently before the cows come and mess them up. My initial thought was to build a pen around the camera but this is going to be quite a bit of work with 6+ cameras.

Can you not put them on a feeder or a 8' tpost next to the feeder pointed down and out??

I had that problem with the resident donkeys in my area on our place. They even broke the antenna off of one by rubbing up against it. I ended up having to put my camera on a tree to get it away from them. If that's an option for you, there are mounts that will thread into a tree and you can swing the arm around to the position you want, and then snug the wingnut on the arm so it doesn't move.

I had thought about that and it might be the best option. I would like it pointed towards the feeder so I can see everything that happens if possible though.

Bigger pens that allow the camera to be far enough away, we typically use 10 cattle panels in a circle

when we had that issue we used 3 T-posts to make a triangular pen around our cams, just did 2 strands. each T-post was about arms length from the camera.

Bigger feed pens….get your cameras far enough inside the cows can’t reach them

I did something similar with 3 of the little green garden stakes. I put the camera on one and in front of it, just out of view, I drove in two more on either side so the cows could not easily rub against the camera as they've passed by. Not really a pen, just posts out front that keep the camera somewhat protected. I've had several cams just ripped off tposts by cows. So far so good on this approach for me.

Put a small 2’X1’ cage around it with cattle panel. Something strong they can’t push. Put a hole where you can access the camera with ease. I’ve had bad luck with cows pushing my cameras over the years.

If there are trees, I like the to screw the mounts in the trees, high. If you don't, it's sux. LoL

We are having issues with cows at our pig feeder stands that do not have pens. We haven't done it yet but have the idea to mount the cameras inside of a metal ammo box. The box will have the lid removed, turned vertical, and will be mounted on a t-mate. We plan to cut a hole in the top for the antennae to stick out but will have PVC around it for protection.

I'm liking the 3 t-post idea too, which sounds easier. We will likely try that first. I was thinking we need a box to keep them from licking the camera but as others has mentioned, the issue seems to be more so that they are rubbing on it than licking. But then again, we have had several antennas chewed over the years...
