    Buying a half Bison

I'm looking to purchase a half bison all cut and vacuum sealed ready for the deep freezer. I normally keep a freezer full of elk but I didn't draw any elk tags this year.

Does anyone know of a farm/ranch in north Texas or southern Oklahoma that sells half bisons?

How much does a bison cost?
I may be interested in a half of one. But not if it's like beef prices these days geez.

Nestled deep in the Texas Hill Country, Roam Ranch is a regenerative farm striving to produce nourishing meat and heal ecosystems by mimicking the complexity of nature.

How much would you be willing to pay for half the meat if I shot a bison?

from a processor side my customers are buying around $6-8.99/lb to turn into commercial cuts. This is a large further processor in South Texas so they're buying huge amounts at a time from some ranches up north. Probably cheaper to do a meat hunt somewhere out here. Looks like a lot of ranches in west texas are $2,500-3K for a cow/meat hunt

I would pay a fair price for the meat. The problem for me would be finding a processor that would take a half bison and process it for me.

I usually buy half beef twice a year from my local processor. Its an easy process and all I have to do is pick up the meat.

I found a place online called heritage bison ranch which sells half bison online for 13.63/lb. It estimates about 168lbs of packaged meat from a half bison.

Where are you located and how far would you be willing to travel to pick up the meat?

I'm in Wichita Falls, I would drive 3-4 hours for it.

I'm gonna do some research. Give a little more thought on what a fair price might be and I'll get back with you.

There is or was a ranch around Corpus that some years would do a meat hunt for $800. If he advertises this year I may call him and see if he has cooler I can pay to age it. Figure from there I could process in a day.

Wow. I would have guessed 400 pounds.

I'm thinking of a huge bison. How big are farm raised bison when they are slaughtered?
