First year bow hunting (have had a bow for a while but nowhere to hunt!).
Opening morning of bow season i about cr@p myself when a big 8 walks out at 35 yards. He was going the wrong way so it was now or never. Well needless to say i learned a lot in the next 45 seconds.
He was on a mission...bow up and drawn no problem...need to stop him...grunt and he stops perfect broadside...tense.
You know what happens next, i release my arrow and he ducked, dodged, dived and ducked so hard i almost hit him in the antlers (he dropped and 180...arrow got there at about 110 degrees into his turn).
Well crap...
Saw him the next morning coming from the other direction...he never came under 55 yards...pretty sure he was stuck on neighboring property about an hour later as you don't normally hear victory yells at 8am on a Sunday morning unless something cool just happened.
I never saw him again.
Multiple chances at deer in the following weeks but i want that buck!
Well after passing multiple smaller deer i finally decide to take a hill country doe and hit her quartering slightly away with the rage 2 blade at 25 yards...she is down 50 yards away.
It wasn't my buck but let me tell you i was EXCITED! Not to mention i beat my brother-in-law on our "first deer with a bow" bet!
Photo is the entry side...shot was a bit high and forward but its safe to say i caught lung!
*And yes she is not the old maid or anything be there weren't too many "big" does seen on the lease this past year.
Also here are a couple cell phone videos from the blind if you're bored (just deer running around):
