I had a new deer show up on camera this past week. He’s pretty cool, got a weird split brow. I’m not really sure how old he is. Here’s what I found interesting:
i sent the pic in a group message to 8 guys I know who are hunters asking how old. The first guy said 3, and in total 6 of the 8 said 3 or 3.5.
i also posted pics on here in the game management/age and score/trail cam pics forum, and the first guy said it was old, 7-8. 6 more people commented, and every single one said he was old.
this had me confused, so I posted it to east Texas outdoors on Facebook. The first guy there said 4.5. Since then about 25 people have responded, and nearly 20 said 4 or 5.
all this leads me to believe that A) people suck at aging deer (myself included), and B ) the first to chime in gets to decide what the group thinks as a whole.
