I have a love hate relationship with the heavy rains in September. Love it to fill the ponds for deer season but it sure does scatter the birds.

Lol. They don’t know there will be a hurricane 4 days before opener and a day of 30mph winds to relocate birds

Planning on going in the morning, but that will probably be it.

Snagged a couple new little decoys and some ammo yesterday so I'm ready. Probably run and get my license today during my lunch so I don't have to fight the crowd. Hopefully these MOJO Flickers get the dove a little closer if we don't have a lot of birds moving like last year. Dove opener is always a good time!

My executive assistant said he was going to do the same thing today. I told him to pick up some of those MOJO Flickers while he’s there. Kinda curious to see if the really work better than the regular ones or if it’s all just hype and hyperbole.

I was curious as well so pulled the trigger and bought 2 packs. I will report back my findings after opening weekend

As for whether or not we go out on subsequent mornings, it will depend on how well they’re flying on opening day, at least not until cooler weather starts pushing them down from the north.

As for our favorite way to eat them, it’s buttermilk-battered and deep fried. These days, however, in an effort to keep our hemo a1c, blood pressure, lipids, C-reactive protein (etc., etc., etc.) in check, we’ve given up fried foods and, instead, eat them bacon-wrapped, stuffed with sweet onion and jalape?o, and sprinkled with a little bit of seasoned salt.

Be sure to save your bones in a ziplock in the freezer and, once you’v accumulated enough, use them to make poultry stock. Delicious and organically delicious.

Exactly how we do them except we add a slice of poblano pepper. Sweet onion is the key

I’ve got some of the flicker things this year as well. Anxious to see how they work. I’m also using the most top notch, up to date ammo. Check out that price.

                    I was wondering…..lol…..

Heck, if history is at play, it will be cool from all the rain we get the day before opener.

Well y'all sold me - bought some Flickers at Academy. The opener is 2 weeks from tomorrow - things can change of course but as of right now I see no predictions of north Texas getting out of this bone dry, triple digit pattern by then. Gonna take a lot to beat this heat dome...

Gonna head north across the river !
Oklahoma birds aren’t as smart as Texas birds.

Just booked a hunt for the 9th in El Campo. Lord have mercy $450 for 3 people to shoot doves for an evening. Never thought I would be in a position where I would have to pay to dove hunt....but thus is life. Looking forward to it!

Found a few limits in the freezer from last year, so I made dove enchiladas last night. They were a big hit and will stay in the rotation.
